"To live in the world of creation - to get into it and stay in it - to
frequent it and haunt it - to think intensely and fruitfully - to woo
combinations and inspirations into being by a depth and continuity of
attention and meditation - this is the only thing."

Juarez, deadliest city in the world

From my friend Jeff Antebi (who is also the founder of Waxploitation:

As you may know, I've been photographing elections during times of war and conflict as part of a long series of essays about how ordinary people struggle to vote, living in places plagued by violence. Afghanistan, South Thailand, Haiti and now Juarez.

About 5,000 people have been murdered in drug cartel wars in Juarez since 2008. It will probably continue to be the deadliest city in the world for some time. Juarez will hold elections on the 4th of July.

I'm tweeting from there at www.twitter.com/jeffantebi

It's been a busy, if not typical week for the drug cartels.

On Monday, Rodolfo Torre Cantu, the front-runner for Governer of Tamaulipas, was murdered. Consensus from opion polls predicted he would win by 30 points. His brother will will stand in his place on the ballot. On Wednesday, the mayor Oaxaca, Nicolas Garcia Ambrosio, was murdered. On Thursday, hitmen murdered Sandra Salas, a deputy attorney general, in Juarez. Also on Thursday, a decapitated head was discovered outside the home of Hector Murgia, the front-runner for Mayor of Juarez. A few weeks ago, the mayor of Guadalupe, Jesus Manuel Lara Rodriguez, was murdered as well.

I have new feet

I went to see my friend Tim. I was sick and suffering and he wanted to talk about his business, but I said, I'm sorry I can't talk about business now. I'm not well. And he paused for a moment, and then he said:

What is this river you want to cross?
There are no travelers on the river-road, and no road.
Do you see anyone moving about on that bank, or nesting?
There is no river at all, and no boat, and no boatman.
There is no tow rope either, and no one to pull it.
There is no ground, no sky, no time, no bank, no ford!
And there is no body, and no mind!
Do you believe there is some place that will make the soul less thirsty?
In that great absence you will find nothing,
Be strong then, and enter into your own body;
there you have a solid place for your feet.
Think about it carefully!
Don’t go off somewhere else!
Kabir says this: just throw away all thoughts of imaginary things,
and stand firm in that which you are.

Tim repeated "Be strong then, and enter into your own body; there you have a solid place for your feet." "Isn't that amazing?" he said. I said it was.

I got home, and my daughter, two, almost three, said, without preamble: "Do you have new feet?" and made me show her my feet.

Amazing. I have new feet.
